Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is April 22

Twenty million Americans celebrated the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, during a time when cities were clouded in their own smog and rivers were streaming with pollutants.

Now, 36 years later, Earth Day is celebrated around the world. Through the combined efforts of the U.S. government, engineers, grassroots organizations and citizens like you, what began as a day of national environmental recognition has evolved into a world-wide campaign to protect our global environment.

Engineers of all types help make our planet safe. Engineers invent environmentally-friendly cars that produce less air pollution and create new methods of conserving energy. They even develop new and effective ways to recycle and reuse water. Other engineers help clean up sites contaminated with hazardous materials to prevent sickness and provide safe living conditions for communities.

To satisfy the need for water, food and energy of our growing global community, engineers establish sustainable solutions to secure resources for future generations. The contributions engineers make to protect our Earth are vital and necessary for the well being of humankind.

Join us this Earth Day as we celebrate the efforts of engineers who care about your safety and health as well as the future of our Earth.

Make plans to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 and think of things you can do around your home or school to help make our environment better.
