Introducing Connections

The Newsletter of the Center for Engineering Outreach

Committed to inspiring and preparing tomorrow's engineers, the Texas Tech Center for Engineering Outreach is a leader in K-12 engineering outreach across the state of Texas and the South Plains. We are excited to work with educators in the public schools and play a part in helping students bridge the gap between K-12 education and the university.

“Committed to inspiring and preparing tomorrow's engineers, the Texas Tech Center for Engineering Outreach is a leader in K-12 engineering outreach across the state of Texas and the South Plains.”

Driven by the demand for engineers in today's global economy, K-12 engineering outreach allows universities like Texas Tech to encourage the next generation of engineering students. Together with our partners in K-12 education, industry and higher education, the Center for Engineering Outreach is focused on integrating engineering into all levels of education and raising public awareness about engineering.

Our approach to engineering outreach consists of four key areas:

  • Pre-college Engineering Academy - a standards-aligned curriculum that allows K-12 administrators and educators to include engineering content in their classes
  • Teacher training workshops - professional development workshops designed for K-12 teachers who want to incorporate engineering concepts into their classroom
  • Engineering Outreach Mentors - our K-12 mentoring program that provides Lubbock-area teachers with Texas Tech engineering students trained to facilitate engineering-themed lessons in the classroom
  • Other enrichment activities - experiences designed to introduce K-12 students to engineering, like summer camps, after school programs and other special events

Reflecting these natural connections between both our program areas and our partners, our center's newsletter is a way for us to keep our friends in K-12 education, industry and higher education informed about the exciting accomplishments and progress of the Center for Engineering Outreach. In this spirit of partnership, we introduce you to the premier issue of Connections.
