Why I'm a mentor
One of the major thoughts that always comes back to engineers is to review their basics. Basics are important for almost any kind of career, but in engineering basics are critical.
I believe that a good start is necessary for a successful career in engineering. For kids, it is important to introduce them to engineering so that they love it and have fun practicing it.
What I'm working on
As an electrical engineer, the usual courses are circuits, electronics and communications, but we get our real knowledge when we are assigned project labs. To graduate as an electrical engineer, you go through five labs where you put into practice what you've learned in theory.
Aside from the engineering life, I'm also involved in several organizations, such as the African Student Organization, IEEE, and IAESTE, which takes care of finding internships with international companies for Texas Tech students.
Part of my activities with the African Student Organization include participating in Take a Kid to the Game where Texas Tech students take kids from underprivileged homes to a Red Raider football game.
Why I like Texas Tech
I used to go to school at a community college in Dallas before graduating with my associate's degree and transferring to Texas Tech.
The reason I chose Texas Tech is because I learned about engineering program while I was in Dallas, visited a few times and really liked the atmosphere better than the other schools I was considering.
What I plan to do
After I graduate, I would like to take a break and get some experience working full-time for a company. Hopefully two or three years down the road I'll go to graduate school.
