“I missed that fulfillment [of helping kids] until I began working with the mentoring program.”
Major: Civil Engineering
Hometown: Helotes, Texas
Why I'm a mentor
My mother worked as a work room coordinator for the school I attended. I always love going back and helping her with the kids and assisting the teachers. I missed that fulfillment until I began working with as a mentor.
What I'm working on
Students in my major usually work finding forces and equilibrium. We take courses like statistics, mechanisms of solids and fluid mechanisms. My research interest is structural steel.
As a Red Raider I'm involved in PEGASUS, an organization that helps first generation college students succeed, and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.
Why I like Texas Tech
I chose Texas Tech because of my love for Coach Bob Knight and because I love all of the beautiful architecture.
What really caught my attention is that Texas Tech is one of the few universities that offer a dual degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering. Although I am no longer a dual major, I'm proud to say the College of Engineering has one of the leading wind engineering programs in the country.
What I plan to do
After I graduate, I plan to leave Texas Tech with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and minors in both math and business. I plan to work on site engines in the power division of Zachary Construction Corporation — working my way up to C.E.O.
