2007 Engineering Outreach Mentor
Brandon Clevenger
“If I had not been exposed to engineering at an early age, then I might have never discovered my interest.”
Major: Civil Engineering
Hometown: Houston, Texas
Why I'm a mentor
I believe a program like this is very important to inspire kids to pursue the field of engineering. When I was a young child, my interest in engineering came from watching my dad, who was an engineer. I remember going to programs for children at my father's company. If I had not been exposed to engineering at an early age, then I might have never discovered my interest.
What I'm working on
Students in my major typically take courses in structure design, hydraulics and other civil engineering courses. My research interest involves new design, structure materials and their applications; especially the use of carbon fiber in cycling. I'm also involved in Complex Council and Pi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
As a Red Raider, I love the outdoors, cycling and camping.
Why I like Texas Tech
I chose Texas Tech because of the friendly staff and students. Also, when I visited the engineering department, I learned Texas Tech uses a very hands–on approach.
What I plan to do
After I graduate I want to work with Texas Department of Transportation and design roads. Eventually, I would also like to build a velodrome in the Austin area for cycling.
