2007 Engineering Outreach Mentor
Michael Bird
“Today's youth are tomorrow's future, and I can think of no better investment than helping to steer them in the right direction.”
Major: Electrical Engineering/Computer Science
Hometown: Midland, Texas
Why I'm a mentor
I wanted to be an engineering mentor because in many ways, I'm still a kid myself. In addition to being a unique and rewarding experience, it's just plain fun. Today's youth are tomorrow's future, and I can think of no better investment than helping to steer them in the right direction.
What I'm working on
I'm currently researching and developing speech aids for the handicapped. Outside of classes like project lab and computer architecture, I also participate in FACE AIDS and various engineering organizations.
Why I like Texas Tech
I chose Texas Tech because it's the best! We have the best campus, the nicest people and the best curriculum.
Texas Tech's engineering program is by far the best in the state. The program includes great classes, professors at the top of their field, and hands-on learning. Texas Tech produces engineers that are prepared to go out and make a difference.
What I plan to do
After graduating, my current plan is to be ridiculously happy and successful. This might include an engineering job, graduate school or perhaps a multi-platinum selling rock album with adoring fans.
The great thing is that with an engineering degree from Texas Tech, I feel confident that anything is possible. Regardless of where I end up, I have loved being at Texas Tech.
