2006 Engineering Outreach Mentor
Kayla Sisk
“I chose Texas Tech because the campus is gorgeous, the people are some of the friendliest you will ever meet, they have a great engineering program and Bob Knight is the basketball coach!”
Major: Civil Engineering
Hometown: Helotes, Texas
Why I'm a mentor
As a mentor, I not only help children learn but I also teach myself in the process.
I can help kids have a better understanding of math and science, and at the same time further extend my knowledge as well.
When the kids learn, I learn, and it's a win-win situation.
I want to help prepare kids for engineering because most children don't know what an engineer is until high school. I wan to make kids more aware of engineering fields so that our country can make the most out of the next generation of students.
What I'm working on
Civil engineers work on projects that help people, such as designing roadways, bridges and water treatment plants.
Right now, I'm taking Engineering Graphics, Calculus I, Chemistry 1307, chemistry lab, political science, English, and a civil engineering seminar class.
I'm involved in the Society of Engineering Technologists and Campus Crusade for Christ, and I also volunteer with PEGASUS which helps first-generation college students.
Why I like Texas Tech
I chose Texas Tech because the campus is gorgeous, the people are some of the friendliest you will ever meet, they have a great engineering program and Bob Knight is the basketball coach!
What sets this university apart is the fact that they throw you into your major right away and really give you a sense of your future and your career.
What I plan to do
I plan to graduate with a degree in civil engineering and a minor in business.
My dream is to work for Zachry Construction Corporation, hopefully in the power plant division.
