2006 Engineering Outreach Mentor

Major: Construction Engineering Technology
Hometown: Friendswood, Texas
Why I'm a mentor
It's important to show kids opportunities in life and to give them some more choices of what is out there and what they can do in life. I know for me, personally, I chose my major only after I was told about it, learned more about it, and realized that it was something I wanted to do.
Plus I love to watch kids grow up, and I get great joy when I see them accomplish their goals.
What I'm working on
Most construction engineering technologists go on to be project managers, cost estimators or superintendents in the construction industry.
Currently, I'm taking classes in masonry, cost estimation, soil and foundations. I will be taking transportation, steel and concrete courses in the next semesters.
I'm involved in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, and I just recently got involved with the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). I hope to do the AGC design build competition in the spring.
When I'm not at school, I just enjoy hanging out with my friends.
Why I like Texas Tech
I chose Texas Tech because its engineering programs have a great reputation for being among the best. There were other schools that I could have gone to, but Texas Tech had the reputation and size that was a perfect fit for me.
What I plan to do
After I graduate, I want to work as a project manager or superintendent in a major city. I want to become a leader at my company, and I look forward to overseeing multi-million dollar construction projects.
