Why I'm a mentor
People are always telling my generation and me that we are the future and that it is in our hands to make a difference. I think that difference is not only in how we better ourselves to better our society but also how we better help others, too.
Where better to start helping others than with students who have a curiosity and thirst for knowledge? Even though we may be mentoring them, I think there is a lot to be learned from K-12 students. Nothing is more rewarding than helping others.
What I'm working on
As a civil engineering and architecture dual major, I'm always designing things, creating things and trying to understand the way things work. In my architecture and civil engineering classes we're learning about materials and construction methods.
My research interests include new construction methods as well as new construction materials. I'm involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers, American General Contractors, and American Institute of Architectural Students. I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, and I'm a member of Tau Beta Pi — an engineering honor society. For fun, I love playing soccer.
Why I like Texas Tech
Studying engineering at Texas Tech is unique because of the dedicated teachers, variety of engineering fields and great facilities. The university has a lot of school spirit, and the mix of education and fun makes for a great learning environment.
What I plan to do
I would love to get master's degrees in both structural engineering and architecture after I graduate. Then I'd like to become licensed in both professions and start my own firm.
